Lot 3004 SILVER PLATED CIVIL WAR HENRY RIFLE.

Cal. 44. S# 5509. This honest survivor was made in 1864 and has all the characteristics proper for this 5th variant. Matching serial numbers are found on 24" octagon barrel, stock, and 2nd type pointed buttplate. Frame & buttplate are silver plated which is rarely seen. Sling swivels are mounted on the left side of stock and barrel. More Henrys were made in 1864 than any other year, estimated production at about 4000 with many if not most being sold privately for use in the Civil War.CONDITION: good to very good overall, complete and matching, missing rear sight. Brass retains about half its silver plate, less on buttplate. Barrel is mottled dark gray/plum. The proper 2-line all serif barrel address is very good, as are all serial number stamps. Stock is sound with normal handling marks. Mechanically fine with crisp rifled bore. (01-26797/JS). ANTIQUE. $9,000-14,000.
